Support for the Learning and Teaching of English (SLATE)
Established in 1997 by NCTE and Support for the Learning and Teaching of English (SLATE) the Intellectual Freedom Award is given to a person, groups, or institutions for advancing the cause of intellectual freedom. A subcommittee of the NCTE Committee Against Censorship selects the recipients each year, and KCTE seeks to do the same. If you know someone who deserves this award, please consider nominating them!
KCTE SLATE Representative Kate Barrows currently serves as a library media specialist and formerly served as an English teacher in Jefferson County Public Schools. Please reach out to her if you have any concerns or need support in fighting for intellectual freedom in your school or community.
